Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Do I have to be of follower of Christ to be a part of the Seven Forty BCM?

Do I have to be of follower of Christ to be a part of the Seven Forty BCM?

No. You do not have to be a follower of Christ to be a part of our ministry. Because we at the Seven Forty BCM are majorly a community of Georgia Tech students who profess Christ as our Lord and Savior, it is a great place to learn about the Good News of our Savior Jesus. Many of our events are focused on helping believers in Christ grow to understand their faith at a deeper level, so whether you want to hear for the Truth for the first time or learn more about what being a Christ-follower is all about, there is no better place to come! We strive to be students who are willing to share our time, love and friendship with you regardless of what you believe so please stop by!
Do I have to go to a Baptist church or be a Baptist to be a part of your ministry?

Do I have to go to a Baptist church or be a Baptist to be a part of the ministry?

No. The Seven Forty BCM is full of students from all different faith backgrounds. While some students have grown up in Baptist churches, many students who come regularly have attended or are attending other Protestant, non-denominational or Catholic churches. Additionally, we have several students who have not been a part of church growing up and who come from backgrounds hostile to Christianity. So it doesn't matter where you've been or "what you are".

But why Baptist? We are blessed to be supported financially and in leadership by the Georgia Baptist Convention (a group of Baptist churches here in Georgia) who many years ago, established the Baptist Center on the campus of Georgia Tech. Without our brothers and sisters in Christ in Baptist churches all across the state supporting us, this ministry would not exist in the same way it does today. Our building, utilities, staff and many aspects of our ministry are made possible by the generosity of these churches. We are very grateful to have Baptist as a part of our name and heritage.

BCM stands for "Baptist Collegiate Ministries." If you hang around long enough, you may also hear BSU from some of our alumni and people on campus. The BSU was our former name until 4-5 years ago when all Georgia Baptist collegiate ministries changed to BCM. BSU stood for "Baptist Student Union."

What are the "Shared Values" all about?

What are the "Shared Values" all about?

The Shared Values define five areas of focus and vision for our ministry: Community, Discipleship, Evangelism, Service and Worship. These are outlined to help structure our student leadership into teams of three to four individuals who work together to envision ideas to facilitate the growth of believers in Christ. We see these as critical values to live out the example of Christ, God's love and the fellowship of the early church we are given in the Bible. Teams for each shared value, led by a student president and the staff make up our Vision Team, the leadership group of the Seven Forty BCM.
